Rhythmic Fundamentals

Rhythm Reading Bootcamp, Volume 1

Most basslines that we encounter contain only a few pitches, but almost limitness rhythms. I found that many of my students who were new to reading standard notation struggled with counting note values, so I started writing graded exercises for them.

Volume 1 starts at the beginning, starting with common notation symbols and basic note values. You then get lots of opportunities to gain mastery over the fundamentals of rhythm, starting with whole notes and progressing to eighth note syncopation, ties, and dotted notes.

This a workbook rather than a textbook – each chapter introduces one new idea and then gives you exercises to practise until the rhythmic concepts go from academic to intuitive.
