Do any of these sound familiar?

“I can never seem to find any time to practice.”

“There are so many things to work on that I just don’t know where to start.”

“I feel like I’ve been practising the same things for months and not getting any better.”

“I start my practice with the best of intentions, but after a few minutes I lose focus and just end up noodling – before I know it, 30 minutes have gone by and I’ve not learned anything new.”

Working out the best way to practice when you have limited time is tough. There are thousands of books and videos out there packed full of scales and exercises, but none of them tells you how to break down all the information and practise it in an organised, effective way.

If you’re stuck in a rut with your practice and worried that your playing isn’t going anywhere it’s tempting to just buy a new book or video lesson course in the hope that it’ll solve the problem. Isn’t it time to take a look at how you practise instead?

Description

This is a book about music that contains no music. Instead, it focuses on the other side of practice.

It seems like all of the other bass books on the market talk about what to practice, but never focus on how to go about it.

Better Bass Practice is the result of 20 years of my own personal research and experimentation around developing an effective, organised, and sustainable practice routine, giving you proven strategies to make the most of the time that you spend at the bass.

Better Bass Practice contains straightforward tactics to help you:

• Improve your concentration

• Reduce pain, fatigue, and the risk of developing injuries

• Find a teacher who matches your musical needs

• Manage your practice time effectively

• Set realistic musical goals and track your progress

• Remove obstacles and stay motivated

I think one of the other reviewers summed up my opinion of this book quite eloquently so I’ll echo the sentiment. “This book is a valuable and systematic collection of advice from a seasoned bassist. “ There are seven chapters packed with advice and links to external material for reference and/or additional study. It is well worth the investment!
