The Killers – ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ bass transcription
The Killers debut album, 2004’s Hot Fuss, made a serious impact around the globe, gaining the band no less than five Grammy award nominations and spawning commerically successful singles. Their best-known work from the album, ‘Mr. Brightside’, is one of the few songs that’s remained a staple on my gigs since I started working in 2007 (Mr Brightside is transcribed here), and ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ is one of the band’s most frequently performed songs at their live shows.
Performance Notes:
There’s nothing too scary here, aside from the key signature of Gb major (six flats!). This would’ve been recorded with every string tuned down a semitone, but I stubbornly refuse to re-tune by bass.
Mark Stoermer’s bass part is mainly 8th-note based, with the occasional 16th-note flourish during the chorus sections. With this sort of chugging, supportive bass part the key area to focus on is consistency – channel your inner Adam Clayton and make every note smooth, even, and relaxed.
