The Beatles, formed in Liverpool in 1960, were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – the Fab Four. They are, quite simply, the most influential act of the pop and rock genre.
In their early years, the hype around the then-boy band was called “Beatlemania”, but as the group’s members, mainly Lennon and McCartney grew, so did the band’s sound. The group is an interesting study of the ‘10,000 Hours’ concept – where you need that much time practising something to become an expert – as the four played countless gigs in Hamburg, Germany, from 1960 to 1962 (with Stuart Sutcliffe as bassist and with numerous drummers, including Pete Best at one point).
Their debut “Love Me Do” was released in 1962 and the Beatles started to lead the British invasion of music in America. They have since become the best-selling band in history, with estimated sales of over 600 million records worldwide. Several decades later, the two surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, are still active in the music industry.
In 2008, the group topped Billboard magazine’s list of the all-time most successful “Hot 100” artists and the Beatles have received ten Grammy Awards and fifteen Ivor Novello Awards. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and all four were inducted individually from 1994 to 2015. (southernharvestinsurance.com)
